My Girl Cave Office

She Sheds, Girl Caves and Babe Caves, oh my!

This new term is quickly sweeping the nation! (probably not, lol). But anyway, when we moved into our new home one of the top items on my “must have” list was to have my own personal space. Yes, we need our own personal space. For me, I decided to take the office as my place of solitude.

According to Urban Dictionary, the Girl cave is defined as “A designated area/territory for females to live or hang out in. Usually heavily decorated in a very feminine manner.” Heavily decorated in a very feminine manner?!, That sounds AMAZING!

For centuries men had their Man Caves. Secretly tucked away in the garage or in the lowest part of the house where you need an access code, three keys and a secret password to enter. Maybe not that secretive but I’m sure they wished it were at times. If men can have their own spaces to kick off their shoes and throw stinky soiled socks on the floor, why can’t we? But who said we couldn’t? It is time for us to put our foot down and take control! We need our own Babe Caves, Girl Caves, She Sheds, you name it, we can get it! There are so many possibilities when creating the ultimate Babe Cave, in fact, there aren’t many rules at all… Just imagine, a place where you can unwind, relax, meditate, or just get things done without the hub or kids tugging on your oversized house coat every two seconds. Ladies it is possible and I can show you how to start planning your own personal Girl Cave.

1. Pick a space

When considering a space for your Girl Cave the possibilities are endless. You don’t need 500 square feet or even 200 square feet, a small corner tucked away is all the space that you need. I picked our 120-square foot home office for my Girl Cave.

Spaces you can consider for your girl cave!

-       Office

-       Nook in the kitchen

-       Basement

-       Closet

-       Sitting room

-       Outdoor shed

-       Makeup table or area

-       Spare Bedroom

I absolutely love spare bedrooms turned into closets, doubled as a Girl Cave. Check out this closet/girl cave, it is beautiful and oh so functional.

Check out this She Shed! Now this is the epitome of relaxation!

This is a cute little nook tucked away in a small room but it is stunning!

2.     Next, pick a color palette and theme.

I picked gold, black and white. It is something about black, white and gold that is timeless. These were my wedding colors as well. I knew I wanted a black, white and gold room somewhere in my home so this was the perfect room for it. Of course, the design scheme was ultra-glam and inspirational. I added a gallery wall with inspirational quotes and feminine pictures.

3. Finally, order furniture and decorate with things you love!

I created a mood board for inspiration. This helped me narrow down my furniture selections and accessories for the space. I then created a 3D rendering to help visualize how the space will look.

Steps for creating your own personal Girl Cave!

  1.  Add stylish yet comfortable furniture. You just need to take a seat and unwind. Adding a cute chair will do the trick.

2. Include a small table or desk space. If you are like me and decide to use your Girl Cave as an office you will need a small table or desk. You can use this space to plan weekly meals, work or even do makeup.

3. Accessorize. Your Girl Cave is all yours, so it is important to add accessories that make you feel stress-free and happy. Add family pictures from travel, artwork and anything that represents you! Adding family photos, inspirational quotes and styling my bookshelves put me in my “happy place”. What takes you to your happy place? Add elements of that in your space.

4. Pick a cutesy rug. I love layering area rugs over carpet. For me, it adds another dimension to the space. This is optional but you can step outside the normal to add more interest to your fabulous design

5. Add a Stunning Chandelier. Lighting is very important. I love how a chandelier can totally transform a space. The right lighting fixture can add the perfect touch of class and sophistication to your Girl Cave.

6. Style with books or magazines. Add your favorite books or magazine. What better way to unwind than with a good read and great wine!

7. Include flowers and greenery. Adding real or faux floral and greenery will help brighten up the space. It can also be tranquil and relaxing. Go for the brightest flowers you can find because this room is for you!
